Fan Favorite Uzbek Suzani Cushion

This cushion gives a fragment of Uzbek Suzani embroidery a new, close-up setting. Floral roundels, pomegranates, vines or sun-like forms are worked by hand across the front, with every stitch contributing to the drawing.

Suzanis were traditionally made in sections for dowries and household use, then joined into larger textiles. Reworking part of one as a cushion preserves the embroidery at a scale where the colour changes and irregular outlines can be seen easily.

Placed on a sofa, armchair or bed, it functions as a small textile artwork as much as a cushion, with no two sections carrying exactly the same arrangement.
