Limited Edition Afghan Pashm Runner

In Farsi, pashm means wool. This rug is made entirely of it, from the thick hand-spun pile down to the wool foundation.

Newly woven and fresh from the loom, it was hand-knotted by tribal weavers in Shindand, a town in Afghanistans Herat Province. The pile sets it apart immediately. It is cut long, dense and shaggy, shifting underfoot and catching the light from different angles as you move around it. While tribal rugs are often expected to feel coarse, this one is remarkably soft.

The geometric patterns are worked from memory rather than paper drawings. Because the weavers interpret these tribal motifs freely as they knot, no two Pashm rugs are identical.
